Clinical Practice Opportunities:
This role allows the opportunity to practice in your desired specialty with MercyOne Medical Group with 60% administrative and 40% clinical. The Program Director will be eligible for an academic appointment at Des Moines University.
Responsibilities:
The Program Director has responsibility, authority and accountability for the operations of the General Surgery Residency. Duties include curriculum planning, faculty development, simulation lab oversight and supervision of scholarly activity.
Requirements:
Board certification by the American Board of Surgery or the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery required. Ideal candidate will have five years of clinical experience in an academic setting. Must have a demonstrated interest in surgical education as well as knowledge of ACGME accreditation standards.

Lead Residency Coordinator – GME

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Director of GME – Chattanooga this position is responsible for the day-to-day management of the ACGME training program. The Lead Residency Coordinator ensures compliance with the non-clinical ACGME accreditation requirements, ABMS requirements, and state and federal regulations. This position works with the director of GME, program directors (physician/faculty) and program coordinators that is responsible for the clinical compliance of the training program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures house staff compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Manages and coordinates GME conducted accreditation site visits for program.
- Maintains web based GME accreditation data system and surveys for program, collecting and evaluating information from various sources throughout the campus.
- Prepares and submits reports to GME, American Board of Medical Specialties, American Academy of Specialties, American Association of Medical Colleges, AMA and other professional organizations as required.
- Develops new procedures in response to new or revised policies issued by governing agencies or program director based upon independent judgment.
- Manages the operations of the fellowship programs to include budgeting, auditing, procurement, marketing, resident benefits, compliance, and accreditation activities.
- Documents and credentials all graduate medical education training conducted within the department including initiation and writing credentialing documents as required by housestaff and completion of credentialing forms for signature by appropriate medical staff; maintenance of housestaff personnel records, including confidential evaluation and counseling records.
- Plans, organizes and schedules new house staff orientation.
- Creates fellow rotation schedules; creates monthly fellow conference schedules.
- Implements and manages New Innovations Residency Management Suite database modules to analyze outcome data and improve program efficiency.
- Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration or related field of study. (Master's Degree preferred). (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years' experience in administration or customer service. (Prior experience with accreditation, project management, government regulations, or higher education preferred).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to work with a very diverse group of physicians and staff.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent deadlines and be able to take initiative to manage multiple small training program issues with immediate direction.
- Ability to work as an integral member of the residency management team.

Manage preparation of required accreditation documents, data and reports. - Serve as liaison and support activities for the General Surgery Residency Director such as coordinating meetings, composing replies to correspondence, interpreting and explaining established policy and procedure in response to inquiries from a variety of sources, summarizing reports and information to facilitate review by superior, and investigating, evaluating, and resolving problems within scope of position. Open and review all incoming mail; answer inquiries and compose correspondence on general and technical matters in accordance with established guidelines, and forward other items to supervisor or appropriate staff. Transcribe and compose letters and correspondence from rough draft or Dictaphone tapes; correct grammar, spelling and punctuation errors; edit wording without changing intended message.
- Attend monthly institutional GME Residency Coordinator meeting, annual ACGME, and specialty specific meetings, and workshops. Manage and assist on event planning for the General Surgery Residency Program including retreats, orientation, graduation, and any events within the General Surgery Division. Collaborate with Co-Program Manager on oversight of educational conferences or meetings under general instructions; communicate arrangements to appropriate colleagues as needed. Collaborate with Co-Program Manager on the preparation and submission of multiple reports to institutional and national oversight bodies. Maintain updates of residency program website page and alumni database. Independently prepare, maintain, and distribute Residency Program Manual, and develop/design promotional literature for program.
- Independently manage initial meetings with the student and program director for each rotation. Collect and post grades and evaluations in Oasis and UAccess. Manages credentialing database to make sure students have needed badge access. Works with the Faculty Director of each rotation to coordinate, manage and organize each rotation. Nuvance Health is seeking a System Chair of Surgical Services for our seven-hospital network in Western Connecticut and the Mid-Hudson Valley region of New York State. The System Chair provides clinical and strategic leadership for all components of the Surgical Service Line across our network hospitals in an effort to ensure the highest standard of excellence in the care and safety of all surgical patients. The Chair will work with Nuvance Health System Leadership to set the strategic vision and priorities for the Surgical Services Line and will establish performance targets for the areas of responsibility and manage the performance of the staff in meeting those targets. Our seven hospitals include Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital, and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut as well as Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Northern Dutchess Hospital, and Putnam Hospital Center in New York. We are located about one hour outside of New York City in the suburbs of Fairfield, Litchfield, Dutchess, Putnam, and Ulster Counties with easy train access to the city.
The ideal candidate will be board certified in general surgery with subspecialty fellowship training and at least 10-12 years of post-fellowship experience and a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
Major Accountabilities
This position reports directly to the Nuvance Health System CMO and indirectly to the President, Nuvance Health Medical Practice.
The System Chair
Oversees Surgical Services directly or in partnership with the Surgical Leadership of the System throughout the 7 hospitals in Connecticut and New York within the Nuvance Health System, including Inpatient Surgery, Ambulatory Surgery, and Trauma Service.
Maintains partnership with all members of the Surgical Service Line, the System-Wide Service Line Leadership (currently Cardiovascular, Neurosciences and Cancer Services), the Medical and Ambulatory/Primary Care Chairs, and the community and the system administration to provide excellent service for surgical patients.
Ensures thorough communication of all strategies, initiatives and policy changes to all members of the Surgical Services Line.
Leads monthly Department of Surgery Business Meetings and Section Chiefs' Meetings and provides leadership at Medical Executive Committee Meetings, Operational Excellence Meetings and other leadership meetings.
Is responsible for ensuring that the members of the Surgical Service are qualified to perform the services that they are credentialed for by reviewing applications for membership on the Medical Staff in Surgery and making appropriate recommendations to the Credentials Committee.
Periodically reviews, updates, adopts and enforces all policies, guidelines, rules and regulations for the Surgical Service Line.
